It stops feeling awkward and becomes painful when you let your mind control you and you fantasize with that person. You think of the "what if" and "how about" and when this person feels disappointed, your bubble is shattered and your fantasies are crushed by the overwhelming might of reality.
All this butterflies in the stomach and the emotion of feeling you might get to know someone great are killed by the venom of crude, uncensored truth and reality.
It is so, so sad. Specially when this thinking of yourself as more than a common peep to someone is mutual, and both feelings are smacked in the face by each other's, not knowing that they are smacking themselves.
